The List

I like to read. Here are some books and blogs I am/have enjoyed:

  • You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero (self-help: reading right this minute)
  • The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown (self-help: also reading right this minute)
  • Go Big or Go Home by Kat Von D (memoir- read if you want to get empowered off your ass)
  • The Alchemist (fiction)
  • The Road by Cormac McCarthy (fiction)
  • Wild by Cheryl Strayed (memoir)
  • Blue Like Jazz and Through Painted Deserts both by Donald Miller (memoir)
  • Anything by John Eldredge. Start with Epic (self-help/religious)
  • Billy Collins (poet)
  • M.R. Drake (poet)
  • No More Christian Nice Girl (self-help: just because you’re a Christian doesn’t mean you have to be a nice, cozy doormat of a person. A little cheesy in parts but the overall point will change your life if you have problems being an overly nice doormat Christian woman.)
  • True Love Dates by Debra Fileta (self-help: practical Christian dating advice, because none of us knows what the hell we’re doing)
  • True Love Dates Blog by Debra Fileta
  • Safe People (self-help) by Cloud and Townsend
  • Timmy the Button by me (a kids book that has been enjoyed by both the young and old. You should read it because it’s written by me.)
  • Yes Please by Amy Poehler (inspiring and funny memoir)
  • Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan (laugh your ass off funny)
  • Real Sex (philosophy/religious) by Lauren Winner
  • Behind the Screen: Hollywood Insiders on Faith, Film, and Culture by Lewernz and Nicolosi (essays)
  • Outlander (fiction)
  • Velvet by my friend Temple West (YA fiction)
  • The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien (fiction)
  • Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin (fiction: hopefully he’ll finish writing the series before before we all die)
  • The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning (self-help/religious)
  • Juno by Diablo Cody (script)
  • Angry Conversations with God by Susan Isaacs (memoir)
  • Poetics by Aristotle (philosophy: on the purpose and structure of story)
  • The Bible (it’s pretty chill: if your emotionally and spiritually scarred by the church like me, try reading the Message version)
  • Retail Hell by Freeman Hail (memoir: you will lol if you’ve ever worked retail)
  • He’s Just Not that Into You by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo (self-help: I don’t think life, love, and happiness is as black and white as they make it out to be, but they have some valid points)
  • Loose Girl (memoir)
  • It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want to Be (inspirational)
